Creative Delites held its first event last night, part of what we hope will turn into a series of Friday night dinner parties and cooking classes with NYC’s up-and-coming chefs. Check out the release below, and stay tuned this week for highlights from the fiesta, including great photos and delicious recipes!
Spanish Tapas Party Featuring Up-and-Coming NYC Chef, Mario Rodriguez-Salazar, Fatty Crab Restaurant
Eating out in New York City, especially eating out well, can be expensive, so Creative Delites is bringing the chef, the class, and the food to an apartment near you.
The idea behind the series is to give up-and-coming NYC Chefs the opportunity to lead interactive cooking demonstrations and get their name out there by word of mouth, while giving New Yorkers the opportunity to enjoy a healthy meal in a laid-back, fun, and informative setting– Essentially, “A taste of the Upper West Side neighborhood”.
the INGREDIENTS: The first event was held on Friday, Nov. 20th. The night began at 7:30 pm with pitchers of pomegranate sangria (8 pitchers finished around 3 am) and beautifully plated Spanish tapas made with fresh produce from the farmer’s market and the UWS Whole Foods Market, prepared by Chef Mario Rodriguez-Salazar, Fatty Crab Restaurant. The menu included a Tomato Tart with Goat Cheese and Olive Tapenade, Pan Con Tomate (Tomato Bread), Stuffed Piquillo Peppers, Tortilla Espanola (Spanish Omelets) with Romesco Sauce, and Pan Con Chocolate (Chocolate Bread).
the CLASS: Class began around 8:30 pm. Salazer engaged 15 New Yorkers in an interactive demo, that featured knife skills and basic cooking techniques, including omelet-making, simple syrup recipes, and everyday tips of the kitchen. The overall goal of the evening was to teach everyone how to prepare healthier versions of their restaurant favorites– in a home kitchen. By 3 am, when all of the food and drink was done, everyone recalled (it was after all the next morning) how much they learned– like how surprisingly easy it is to make a sofrito (a basic Spanish sauce that includes diced Spanish onion and red bell pepper).
the DETAILS: The location & date for the next class and dinner party– TBA. If interested in attending, please contact Creative Delites (felyse03@gmail.com). If you are a NYC chef, interested in teaching a class and cooking for a party, please email your resume to (felyse03@gmail.com).
